The federal government decided they were Argentine laboratories that developed the vaccine against influenza A. This was announced yesterday by Minister of Science and Technology, Lino Barañao, told Radio La Red
From that determination, the influenza vaccine could be used only in our country starting next winter, if that local laboratories are successful in their work.
This possibility had been discussed between Barañao and Health Minister Juan Manzur, a day after he took office, early this month. During the meeting, Manzur asked his cabinet to analyze the feasibility of generating a local vaccine, given the difficulties they face in acquiring immunizations that prepare international laboratories.
"It is calling for domestic companies to develop a vaccine to be applied in 2010 and this year does not make sense to have it because the epidemic is in decline," said Barañao.
After meeting this week between Ministers of Health of the region, Minister Manzur had anticipated would be the drawbacks to Argentina vaccines due to the high demand for the leading countries in the world.
Different path
While the world powers have signed agreements with laboratories millionaires who are more advanced developing the vaccine, Argentina decided to produce its own dose of immunization against H1N1 virus.
Infectologists Argentines continue developing the vaccine in the world commented that the lab is that Novartis has the most advanced by having the technical possibility of replicating the effects of the virus on human cells, not chicken cells, as is common in laboratory tests. This technological lead is paved with government contracts from the United States, France, Spain and United Kingdom, among others.
According Barañao, vaccine development that takes place in international laboratories would not be used in Argentina. "This is a virus that is changing and we must be confident that this vaccine serves to cover people from the local strains."
Vaccines for seasonal flu are different in the South and North. However, the information officer of the Government is that the H1N1 virus circulating in Argentina is equal to that attacked the United States and Mexico.
By this time, Conicet researchers working to decipher the sequence of the influenza A virus in our country. On the issue of vaccine use in Argentina, the Minister Manzur had a meeting yesterday with Daniel infectologists Stamboulian.
