Jason, a great and hardy congratulations to you and all who helped to restore the Player's Forum. I have played a bit with forum software and realize it's an amazing job.
I did not get a PM and suspect it's because the user names are case sensitive? "Allan Barker" vs "allan barker" here.
All else equal, should I just make a new account under my old name "Allan Barker"? Am I missing anything that way?
Thanks. |

You should keep your recreated account, and not start a new one, if only to avoid the minor confusion of there being two accounts with similar names. That will also give you the ability to edit your old posts (which some people use a lot and others not at all).
I will send you a PM with your temporary password.

it was a deliberate decision
since the phpbb forum logins are case sensitive
that property was retained
otherwise weird problems, much harder to fix, might have surfaced down the road
there are no case ignorant clashes within the forums
but there are 43 clashes between them
too much human intervention required to determine equivalency there
much easier to let the few affected parties resolve case conflicts here
if you can't tell I personally avoid my own inter-forum clashes by minimizing capitalization (and punctuation) ...
here are the case clashes

wrong
the login is not case-sensitive
e.g. my username = Pat ( including case ) is recorded just the way i registered,
but my login can be PAT or pat or any combination |

well there goes a nice rationalization down the drain
I should have questioned myself after having to generate forum canonical form login names for the sql user db
(from php code that Jason had rooted out)
one of the properties of that form was conversion to lower case
so g.r.emlin will send the pms to the case mismatched users |

Well, let's see. I was over at "sudokuoftheday" thinking I had learned most all there is when I discovered the old Player's Forum. My, how little I really knew. All of a sudden they find a baseball sized tumor in my liver and there I am, laying in the hospital bed high on narcotics and missing half a liver. Thank god for my trusty laptop. But wait, where's the forum??? I mean, between the epidural and all the pills I could eat, surfing the net was a challange! Somehow, I found this thread so I watched and waited. I knew there'd never be a better site for doing it by hand. It's just amazing how you people reconstructed as much as you did. gsf has given me the honor of being the one to have crashed the system as it seems I was the last to join before it went down.
SkyKing
I am greatful
My liver will be fine
I did press the donate button at the other site and i think i'll do it again tomorrow |

Why didn't I think of doing that?
My "Welcome to Sudoku Players Forums" is dated 2005 Nov 16
-- could the date be adjusted on my new registration?
This would make more sense, considering I did submit a pattern in the Patterns Game. |
