Rating puzzles, that is sorting them by difficulty, is much harder than solving them.

Your question has no answer, except possibly to you, and you will change.Smile

Right, but from looking around the forum, I see some people are rating the puzzles according to their difficulty by looking at the type of techniques used. I guess this is the best way so far?

another not really positive answer.

The terms "easy, medium, hard" correspond to very different puzzles whether you are looking at published puzzles or really "hard puzzles", normally not published in the newspapers.

If you are looking for puzzles that can not be solved just using your pencil, then you can find a nice collection of such puzzles in the "lost so far" player's forum.

I personnally worked with the results of the patterns game, about 8000 puzzles giving a good sample of various difficulties.

Some files are available in different places (top 95 top 1465 gsf's file, tarek's file) but this is more if you are looking for very hard puzzles;

Regarding the rating, you can download "sudoku explainer" , not very good for hardest, but a well known reference

Puzzles are always difficult for me but also quit interesting. I start from the easy but never reach to the hard puzzles. But after your forums it is really interesting to solve puzzles.

When talking about rating, is there official guidelines to follow when it comes to rating a board?
