When you post puzzles on this forum, keep in mind that others would like to test these puzzles in their solvers.
However, programmers hate to use keys other than Control, C and V. To keep them happy and avoid complaints, follow these few simple rules:

- Do not post puzzles as images.
- Do not use blanks for empty cells, instead use 0 or a dot.
- Put your puzzles between [code] and [/code] tags.

If you add comment inbetween puzzles, prefix it with a hash #

Some samples:

Code:
#single string with zeroes
076000008000010400410000375063005007000020000800100940521000084008040000700000560

Code:
#single string with dots
.76.....8....1.4..41....375.63..5..7....2....8..1..94.521....84..8.4....7.....56.

Code:
#multiline with dots, no formatting
.76.....8
....1.4..
41....375
.63..5..7
....2....
8..1..94.
521....84
..8.4....
7.....56.

Code:
# with formatting
.76|...|..8
...|.1.|4..
41.|...|375
---+---+---
.63|..5|..7
...|.2.|...
8..|1..|94.
---+---+---
521|...|.84
..8|.4.|...
7..|...|56.

The following is an all-time favorite:
Code:
. 7 6|. . .|. . 8
. . .|. 1 .|4 . .
4 1 .|. . .|3 7 5
-----+-----+-----
. 6 3|. . 5|. . 7
. . .|. 2 .|. . .
8 . .|1 . .|9 4 .
-----+-----+-----
5 2 1|. . .|. 8 4
. . 8|. 4 .|. . .
7 . .|. . .|5 6 .

Code:
# formatted candidate grid

Hi Ruud,

When a candidate grid is posted, it's usually at a "sticking point". Many of us like to have the original clues (givens) as well. As an example:
Code:
800406000030200400040050078069005020300000000000600017520000030000003600000002009

 8      1579   1257   | 4      179    6      | 12359  59     135
 179    3      157    | 2      1789   1789   | 4      569    156
 1269   4      126    | 3      5      19     | 129    7      8
----------------------+----------------------+---------------------
 147    6      9      | 178    13478  5      | 38     2      34
 3      1578   124578 | 1789   124789 14789  | 589    45689  456
 24     58     2458   | 6      23489  489    | 3589   1      7
----------------------+----------------------+---------------------
 5      2      14678  | 1789   146789 14789  | 178    3      14
 1479   1789   1478   | 1578   1478   3      | 6      458    2
 1467   178    3      | 1578   14678  2      | 1578   458    9

I mean this suggestion for those discussing techniques, not for those seeking help.

I don't think anybody can paste a Samurai string into a program, so it does not really matter.

These instructions are just for regular sudoku, to make sure that others can quickly copy the puzzles from the forum and drop them in their solver.

Set your own standards, if you like.

Ruud
